    i think while the 12 mp image clearly wasn't able to store all of the available information, the 48 mp image also has some pretty clear distortions from their post processing algorithm where the raw information is just not there. a true 48 mp image would look totally different (and much better). their claims about cropping are, well... maybe you get around 6 mp fidelity from the 48 mm crop. not the 3 mp he is claiming but also not 12 mp. it's enough to post on instagram. i think the more interesting question is does this sensor make images look "weird" or over sharpened. there were a lot of complaints when it first released. but this can obviously also be changed in software to some degree.

    I'm creating a keywords list based on the 'Lightroom Keyword List Project'. I have a couple of questions that I hope you can help me with: 1. How would you categorize "things" that fall somewhat between "WHAT" and "WHERE"? For example, mountains and lakes. A mountain may be present in two photos taken from completely different locations, which seems redundant to label in each instance (and leads to my next question). Categorizing them as "WHAT" creates confusion for smaller items, such as a hot spring or geyser. These items can't be present in photos shot from elsewhere, but technically, you're not at a geyser, you're seeing one. 2. Can the same keyword exist in two different hierarchies?

    Tony Northup is right; I have the 15 Pro Max, which is no better than my older 13 Pro Max. Also, it is useless in low light. In fact, my 13 PM was better in many cases!

    • @cwaynefox
      @cwaynefox Месяц назад

      His video was only about resolution and nothing about low light abilities, and that’s all I was addressing. I’m curious if your really watched the video, or you just arent’ happy with your iPhone camera for some reason; I would suspect you maybe didn’t actually watch the video through. Tony Northrup’s entire video and conclusions right down to his ridiculous conspiracy theory that apple did it to sell more iCloud storage are based on one assumption he makes, that current phone 48mp sensors are bogus and don't offer anything over a 12mp sensor. His statement that cutting the pixel into 4ths with the same filter doesn’t offer anything shows he doesn’t understand the importance of the ability of each of those sub pixels to record the luminance value. This is as important, and probably more important than the color and indeed is the reason the sensor is effective.. My video clearly shows the 48mp sensor delivers much more detail than a 12mp equivalent, and the difference isn’t small or subtle. I thought I did a pretty good explanation of why his conclusion seems “logical”, but in fact is incorrect (and in fact was the same mistaken logic I had when I first heard about these quad bayer sensors.) I also thought I did a pretty good job explaining that none of this is about photography, and the phone makers aren’t doing these high megapixel sensors for the same reason as the camera makers have been doing for the past 20 years. This is al about getting decent quality digital zoom, not high resolution single shots to print large.

    • @tommyharris5817
      @tommyharris5817 Месяц назад

      @@cwaynefox If you compared the 15 PM with 13 PM in low light, you would find that one is not better than the other; both are useless.

      @cwaynefox Месяц назад

      @@tommyharris5817 you might be right, wouldn’t know since I only use the phone for snapshots and documenting some things as well as quick videos. But you said Tony Northrup was right and you seem to basing that conclusion on something that has no relevance to his video or mine. In regards to resolution of a quad bayer 48mp sensor, which is all my video is about, he isn’t right.

    I love this series! And this one involving ethics is really interesting. Thanks for sharing this information! Sadly, the "love of money" and perhaps also fame have compromised a lot of photographers, who have lied about their work, causing many people to distrust photography in general, hurting all of us. Integrity matters! I know of one of the most famous photographers whom we all know who also said he didn't alter the shots, which he took on Velvia that was then digitized, where it was altered. Lying to people may increase sales and notoriety, but tarnishes them and hurts honest photographers trying to sell their work. The doggy dog competition in photography which often provokes jealousy - even photographers wishing that others that others fail - has greatly diminished the purity and joy of nature photography. Many photographers crave the focus to be on them, wanting to be worshiped, instead of the One Who created the light and subjects we photograph. If our focus is to glorify God, not us, using the gifts God gave us, then our heart motives are pure and the work is clean - feels right always. The photography online forums would have been so much more enjoyable to participate in if photographers' hearts weren't focused on themselves as much. Where is the love? Thanks, Wayne for being a strong, regular contributor in the forums, helping so many of us understand the gear, etc., despite some self-centered photographers keeping the forums from being a more pleasant experience for all of us! Your many contributions helped many of us and the forums overall!!!

    I very much enjoyed your account of the Teapot story. Also the series. I give way more credit to the photographers of old than today's modern digital photographers. They really had to work within very narrow bounds and film latitude to produce good images. Scandal or no scandal, I don't think we can compare today's digital tools with the old film manipulations. I just hope that today's AI does not lead to everyone thinking anything well done was manipulated to death or generated by AI. I appreciate all the info you have shared with us viewers over the years and hope you continue to share it with us. So much to learn. Knowing how hard it was to get good shots with Chrome film using an RZ67 or Pentax 67 with its very limited dynamic range on occasion, I have a huge respect for the talents of these photographers. The skills it took to use those 8x10 cameras and get the results they did blows my mind. And considering the “manipulations” they did, nothing compares to what is going on now. Your comment about AI making it so no one trusts any photograph anymore… unfortunately we seem to be getting there rather quickly.

Although from your description the HD is connected via USB, but the iSight is connected via FW400? That wouldn’t work, the FW400 would have to go all the way through into a thunderbolt FW adapter into the Mac. As far as the last question, The change you make will remain, no worries about restarting. The exception might be when a new macOS is released, so it might break under Sequoia, and require the same fix.

    Hello Wayne, fist of all, many thanks for this series. It's been very helpful to figure out this very hard topic. Also, I am not a native speaker of English and hope my comment and a question is clear. I understand we need colour profiles of input devices, so the colours are correctly imported. Similarly, we need colour profiles of output devices s.a. monitors/printers/projectors, so that output devices produce or display correct colours. What I don't understand is why do we even need a colour profile in the system or say in Photoshop. Why do we have to keep ProPhotoRGB assigned to files? ProPhotRGB is very broad but still somehow limited? Can't we just remove it from a file and not to worry about any restrictions at all? The only explanation to that is we may need to manage colours to match monitors with printers. But then, we need a custom colour profile, not a ProPhotoRGB in Photoshop. This is the only bit I have not understood. Cheers!

      One important fact that most miss is that you want to maintain the original colors as close as possible, so later when you convert to an output space you have all the data available for that conversion. If you clip the colors into a monitor space, then you will be missing many colors that might be in your printer space. Output spaces do not have a relationship with each other at all, instead they all have a relationship with a common “storage” color space., referred to a “working” colorpace. That’s the purpose of the theoretical color spaces, ProPhotoRGB, AdobeRGB, and sRGB. Those spaces are not created based on any output device, but are theoretical and based on maintaining the data (although sRGB really isn’t that either but for some reason it gets lumped into working spaces). You have have a “common” space that can contain all the data, so as you output the data to differerent devices you have all the available data to make that conversion with. Only ProPhotoRGB is large enough to contain all the information a modern sensor can capture, which maximizes the ability to map the data into various output spaces. the next video covers that concept pretty well.

      Thanks for the response. This is quite challenging topic and I was confused about working spaces. The missing bit was the ability to make conversion. I didn't realise we would need to have something to convert from, that is a theoretical colour space. I thought a RAW data would work equally well. Cheers!

    what does charging light balck mean?

      The printer ships with no ink in it. When you initialize the printer it must fill all of the tubes and head with ink. This is referred to as charging the printer.

    This video has been so useful and convinced me to buy the Epson 680. I’m hugely impressed with both the hardware and software that comes with it. My objective is to declutter the thousands of generational photos that I’ve inherited from relatives who have died. Bringing oneself to the point where one is actually ready to incinerate them is tough but I made the decision I’d keep one or two boxes of really precious originals and burn the rest. So I’m about halfway through and chose to scan all 5x3, 6x4 and even 7x5 at 600dpi, dropping to 300dpi on large prints (>10x8) but if the 10x8 was say a wedding group with lots of people in it (so small faces) I am using 600dpi on these so there’s enough detail to recognise them all. I will finish all scans, back up all images to a second drive, then to cloud storage, and only then will I destroy them.
